Becoming a Partner Advocate
Who can be a Partner Advocate?
Partner Advocates are women. Anyone who is currently or has been married, including divorced or widowed. Anyone who is at least one year post seminary or two years post high school.
Do I need to already know a single I want to advocate for?
No. You may partner with someone you already know and care about, a niece, cousin, relative, neighbor or close friend. If you do not have someone in mind, Nivneh will carefully match you with a single who needs your support.
Can I advocate for my own daughter or sister?
No. Advocates cannot partner with their own daughter, sister, or sister-in-law. The strength of the model is that a partner speaks as an outside party rather than as a mother or a sister.
What will the application ask me for?
The usual details, plus a personal reference: their name, cell number, email, and how they know you. The form saves as you go, so you can stop and come back, as long as you finish in the same browser.
Is there screening before I am approved?
Yes. A dedicated Nivneh team member reviews your application, and the team contacts you once you are approved.
What happens once I am approved?
If you are advocating for a single you already know, a Nivneh team member sends you a link to a second form about her, the Partner Advocate Single Information Form, to be completed within a week of approval. If you asked to be paired, the Nivneh team assigns a single to you instead. If you would like help completing the form, the Nivneh team is happy to assist.
What is a team?
Partner Advocates are placed on teams of approximately ten partners, grouped by partner type and by the age range and type of the singles they advocate for. Each team is led by an experienced team leader, which allows for collaboration and much broader networking.
Will I be left to figure this out on my own?
No. Partner Advocates receive resources, guidance, and step-by-step support throughout the advocacy process from experienced team leaders, with specialist committee resources behind them.
For singles and their families
Who can be paired with a Partner Advocate?
A single who is at least one year post seminary or two years post high school.
Does it cost anything?
No fee is charged to be paired with a Partner Advocate. Some services arranged through Nivneh, such as coaching, may be paid. Booking an appointment with a shadchan is separate and has its own fee.
Is the program for boys as well?
The Partner Advocate program is currently serving girls, with the goal of expanding to boys as Nivneh continues to grow. In the meantime, boys may be able to access select Nivneh resources and services, so please reach out if you have a question about what is currently offered.
How long until I hear back?
About 72 hours.
Can someone apply on a single's behalf?
Yes. The request form can be completed by the single herself, or by a parent, family member, or friend.
Can we ask for a specific person to be the advocate?
Yes. If you have a specific individual you would prefer as a Partner Advocate, you may indicate that preference on the form, and Nivneh will reach out if that person is deemed an appropriate fit.
What does a Partner Advocate actually do?
She networks on behalf of the single and helps guide her as an outside party rather than as a mother or a sister. She works to present the single in the best possible light, to the right people, at the right time. She can also connect the single with relevant practical support from Nivneh's committee teams.
Booking a shadchan
Is there a charge for an appointment?
Yes. A twenty minute appointment is $45 and a ten minute appointment is $25. Nothing is paid on this website. Once your appointment is confirmed you will be emailed the Zelle details for the shadchan you booked.
Where does the meeting take place?
On Google Meet, with video, unless your confirmation email says otherwise.
Which appointment should I choose?
There are four. Two are twenty minutes: one if you are the single meeting the shadchan yourself, and one if you are booking on behalf of somebody else. Two are ten minutes: one to discuss a suggestion that has already been redt, and one to touch base with a shadchan you have already met. Not every shadchan offers every kind, so choose another option if the one you want has no times.
Do I have to fill in anything before I book?
No. There is no separate form to complete first. The booking itself asks for the single's details, a short bio, and what they are looking for, and it will not go through without their resume and a photo.
Can I book for someone else?
Yes. Choose the appointment for booking on behalf of somebody else. The booking asks who you are to the single, and a parent, sibling, grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin, friend or Nivneh partner can all book. If you are not the individual who will be joining the appointment, please fill that out so the shadchan is aware.
Do I have to book with a particular shadchan?
You choose the shadchan yourself from the list on the booking page. Not every shadchan offers every kind of appointment, so the times you see are the ones that shadchan takes.
What if I need to cancel or move an appointment?
Cancel or change it through the SimplyBook booking system. You do not need to contact the shadchan to do it. A cancellation has to be made at least 24 hours before the appointment for a refund. Any payment question is between you and that shadchan, because the fee is sent to the shadchan rather than collected by Nivneh.
Committees and volunteering
How many committees are there?
The current plan names eleven committees. All eleven have met and are ready to begin, modeled on the committees that made Project Nivneh's Hurricane Sandy relief effort so effective.
Can I choose which committee to join?
The Committee Application lists all eleven committees and what each one does. You give a first choice and a second choice, and say what you would bring to each.
Can I be on a committee without being a Partner Advocate?
Yes. Anyone can be a committee member. It is a separate way to contribute your skills and experience to the initiative.
